Community-Based Artificial Intelligence (AI) Empowerment for Rural Girls: A Theoretical Framework for Digital Literacy, Cybersecurity, and Sustainable Community Development

Abstract


This study develops a community-based Artificial Intelligence (AI) empowerment framework for rural girls in Bangladesh by integrating digital literacy, cybersecurity, and sustainable community development. A quantitative survey involving 1,006 participants was supported by stakeholder consultations with 37 educators, researchers, and community actors. Rural girls face limited digital access, high mobile data costs, online fraud, privacy risks, and inaccurate AI information. The framework positions security-conscious agency as the mechanism through which digital access, AI skills, and community support produce sustainable empowerment. It also highlights the role of schools, families, local institutions, and community service programs in strengthening safe AI participation. The study offers a practical model for inclusive digital education, protective literacy, and community-based interventions in resource-constrained rural communities.
